Spending Time in Nature is the Best Way to Reduce Stress
REDUCING STRESS IS YOUR BODY’S IDEAL DEFENSE AGAINST DISEASE
We all experience stress in our lives and we all handle it differently. Sometimes stress even has a positive effect. It can give us that extra energy needed to excel in a situation and increase our adaptability. Chronic stress puts a strain on the entire immune system and ultimately manifests as illness. Spending time out in nature on a regular basis brings the body and mind back into a state of harmony and balance. It can be the most effective healing therapy for physical and emotional disturbances.
It doesn’t matter if you take a leisurely walk, a vigorous hike or just find a quiet place to sit and meditate. The important thing is to allow all of your senses to come alive in the natural environment. Listen to the sounds of the birds, feel the air move against your skin, catch the scent of the ocean and appreciate the beauty that surrounds you.
We live in a constant state of over stimulation. Spending time in nature allows your mind to quiet down giving you deeper access to your creativity, sense of purpose and interconnectedness.
How much time do you spend in nature?
IF YOU ARE LIKE MOST BUSY URBANITES… PROBABLY NOT ENOUGH.
I’m not talking about sitting in your backyard. But rather getting away from the lights, sounds and commotion that we are all surrounded by on a regular basis. We are constantly bombarded by external stimuli which the brain has to process and filter out. We are exposed to various electric magnetic fields which disrupt our nervous system. This causes our internal system to work overtime just to maintain. It’s no wonder we feel tired.
Visit Nature’s Powerful Healing Centers
If you are looking to spend some extended time out in nature, there are two well known places in the U.S. that are designated as high energy centers. This is called a vortex. A vortex is created by “a spiraling motion of air or liquid around a center of rotation.” Think about a tornado or more commonly, the water going down the drain. In Sedona and Mount Shasta, the vortexes are said to be created by spiraling spiritual energy. This makes these locations a powerful place for healing, prayer & meditation.
1. MOUNT SHASTA, CA
It is commonly said that Mount Shasta is considered the 1st chakra center for the planet earth. This would make it a very powerful place for feeling grounded & centered. The research on this is not entirely consistent and as always, the best way to truly know something is to experience it for yourself. It doesn’t really matter which chakra is associated with a location but rather, what is your personal experience with it?
Living in California, I am very fortunate to be close enough to have visited Mount Shasta on numerous occasions. I am feeling overdue for a visit since it’s been a while.
2. SEDONA, ARIZONA
The 5 most common sites of high energy vortexes in Sedona are: Bell Rock, Airport Mesa, Red Rock Crossing, Boynton Canyon and Cathedral Rock.
If you are looking for physical, spiritual or emotional healing, it is always a good idea to set your intention prior to visiting any of these sites.
I have not been to Sedona but it is on my list for sure!
Why it’s Important to Connect to Mother Earth
Actually… You are always connected on a physical and a subtle level to Mother Earth. Your existence depends on it. What we need to do is increase our awareness and recognize that the Earth is responsible for the creation and maintenance of all life. When we are so removed from our natural environment, we become lost in a society of over consumption, trendy fads & immediate gratification. This ultimately leaves us feeling empty and dissatisfied. We long for purpose and meaning. When we spend time in nature, we tap into our roots and natural way of being. It is from this place that self healing begins and expands into helping others and honoring the planet earth.
Let us remember that all of the healing crystals, herbs and daily sustenance is provided generously to us from the earth. Think about how you can give back in ways that support and heal the environment. What habits can you change? How can you lessen your carbon footprint?
